Good sun protection is especially important for damaged skin or scars. On this page, we help you choose a sunscreen or protective product that suits your (sensitive) skin.
Which sun protection is best for you?
There is the right sun protection for everyone. Whether you have 'normal' or sensitive skin, or have scars that require extra protection. Below, we help you choose the right product for your situation.
Sunscreen for sensitive skin (with at least SPF 30)
For sensitive skin , Dermasence SolvineaMed Sun Protection gel cream SPF 50+ is available: very high sun protection, fragrance-free, and fast-absorbing. It also contains no emulsifiers, preservatives, or PEGs. Also suitable for children.
A version of this product has also been developed specifically for the face : Dermasence Solvinea Med Sun Protection Facial Fluid .
Finally, there is also a version especially for the delicate skin of your baby /young child: Dermasence Solvinea Baby Sun protection emulsion SPF 50 .
No matter which sunscreen you ultimately use: the advice is to apply, apply, apply. At least every 2 hours. Organizations such as the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) and dermatologists recommend this to properly protect your skin against UV radiation.
Please note: even then, it is not advisable to sunbathe for hours, not even on the beach. And certainly not during the hottest hours of the day (around midday). This is because sunscreen does not block everything, and its effectiveness diminishes over time.
Day cream with sun protection for rosacea
Do you have rosacea , skin that is (extremely) sensitive to redness and reacts quickly to all kinds of external influences? Then you need a day cream that ensures your skin calms down every day . Even when you go out in the sun.
Dermasence RosaMin Day Cream with SPF 50 * is* such a cream: Unscented, with natural plant extracts.
Thanks to the SPF factor, you are protected every day, at any time when your skin inevitably comes into contact with the sun. Just don't forget that the effectiveness diminishes throughout the day. So reapplying every few hours is important!
Medical sun protection for a scar
Do you have damaged skin in the form of a burn or a (fresh or old) scar ? In that case, we refer to sun protection for an urgent medical reason.
For where your skin is damaged, your skin barrier is weak. UV radiation penetrates deeply and causes even more damage, with all the associated risks.
It is therefore necessary to avoid the sun completely. Is that impossible? Then sun protection with a cream or gel is the absolute minimum. Even better is:
- Hydrating scar cream with SPF 30 : ALHYDRAN with SPF 30 intensely hydrates damaged skin and helps keep scars supple. The cream contains Aloe Vera and simultaneously offers protection against UV radiation, which is especially important for scars exposed to sunlight.
- Silicone gel with SPF 40 : Does your doctor recommend silicone therapy for your damaged skin? Then we offer BAPSCARCARE with SPF 40. Ideal for areas you cannot cover outdoors, such as your neck, face, and hands.
- Silicone patches : do you want the assurance that your scar does not come into contact with sunlight? Then silicone patches are the best solution. Also because you are caring for your scar at the same time. We offer silicone patches in all shapes and sizes, from light and elastic to pre-shaped ones for, for example, caesarean section scars or around the nipple .
The importance of sun protection
Why is sun protection important? Because damage from UV radiation can cause skin cancer and premature skin aging.
Research shows time and again: there is a strong link between getting severely sunburned (even just a few times) as a child and developing skin cancer later in life (20 or 30 years after the burn!).
Despite this knowledge, many people forget to apply sunscreen. Or they simply do not see the necessity – which definitely exists.
So protect yourself and your children. Right from the earliest spring sunshine, when the sun's intensity increases again and your skin is extra vulnerable.
The best sun protection is: avoiding the sun
The best sun protection is limiting direct exposure to UV radiation. However, you cannot always stay out of the sun or cover your skin completely.
However, there are tools to stay out of the sun as much as possible. For example:
- Sun protection through clothing: the more body parts covered, the better. Also, don't forget something as simple as a cap to protect your scalp. This is especially true if you have no, little, or thin hair. Always wear sunglasses in bright sunlight as well!
- Sun protection in and around your home: a good awning on the facade, a parasol for your garden or balcony, window film on a skylight. It all seems obvious, but all these things prevent direct contact with sunlight and therefore UV radiation.
- Sun protection in the car: harmful radiation penetrates the skin even through glass. Therefore, protect your children—including babies!—from sunlight on the back seat. This can easily be done with a roller blind, for example.
- Sun protection for the stroller or buggy: small parasols are available on the market for this purpose. Or, of course, the hood of the stroller itself. Always pay close attention to the position of the sun and whether you need to adjust the sun protection.
The more aware you are of the moments when you might come into contact with the sun, the better you will be prepared for preventive sun protection.
No matter how hard you try to stay out of the sun, exposure to UV radiation cannot always be avoided. Good sun protection is especially important for damaged skin or scars , as UV radiation can cause damage and discoloration more quickly in those areas.
